Learning Tkinter

In the 100 Days of Code course there are projects early on using graphical user interfaces. This starts in the intermediate section after day 14 and uses Turtle first. As this is more a learning library than a real GUI library the course switches to Tkinter near the end of the intermediate section on day 27. I found Turtle very informative for animated graphics but Tkinter more useful for actual user interface design. The course doesn’t tackle the Tkinter module in a structure way but introduces widgets as needed. I learned enough to apply it to a project at work where I needed to do a lot of copy pasting of images into Powerpoint.I got some copilot pointers to the relevant modules like os and imagegrab to get me started. I then used this to write up my own tailored code and added a Tkinter based GUI to it to avoid having to run the python code for every image and then enter input in the terminal. To make the Tkinter GUI more user friendly I needed some additional knowledge which I found on the Tkinter.com Youtube channel. The Intro to Tkinter series got me where I needed to be and beyond for my small copy paste application. This was a very small project with not too many lines of code but it was my first python GUI application going beyond accessing the file picker via Tkinter. I have to admit I didn’t spend time polishing the look and functionality as this is just something to automate a repetitive task for myself only and the main objective is to save time. Putting some efort into it will save me 1 hour per week going forward for the rest of the year and as a bonus the output will be more uniform as well. Plus I learned new things that I can use for my flascard project I have been planning to work on.
