Dinner at Saporito in Livorno while staying in the Max Hotel

After having visited Pisa along the way we drove to Livorno to Max Hotel. This turned out to be situated at the outskirts of the city in a not too pedestrian friendly neighbourhood. Parking in front was limited but there was a large parking space next door catering to shoppers of some kind of supermarket. They also have an underground parking but we didn’t bother to park underground. So after checking in we decided to try and go for dinner in the city centre. Unfortunately there was some kind of event going on and we could not find a single parking space in the city. After a few laps through the centre we decided to head back out and look for a parking spot a bit outside. We found one and looked for a place to eat nearby. Google told us that we were parked almost right in front of one but that restaurant was evidently no longer exsiting. We walked to the next place a few hundred metres further but this turned out to be a Japanese restaurant and we had eaten sushi not so long ago so we were not in the mood. Google directed us to a pizzeria not far away with good ratings but that one was also no longer existing. Next one was a kilometre further around the corner and ended up being open. This was Saporito and we were lucky to get the last table outside. No one was sitting inside, only people inside were staff and people picking up pizza for take away. The pizza’s were enormous and there was quite a bit of choice in terms of original or traditional toppings. It was also not too expensive so all in all it was not too bad of a dinner considering we were actually not really in the mood for pizza. Food was certainly good, atmosphere very basic but this helped to keep the bill limited for sure. After dinner we walked back to the car and then went straight to bed after returning to the hotel as we had to get up early to catch the morning ferry. As a result we didn’t have breakfast in the hotel. Rooms were clean and large enough with a well functioning airco this time.
