The Struggle to Stay Active: Running and Climbing Stairs

This year I have been struggling to systematically log my weekly running kms and I am way behind my year target. Yesterday I managed to go for another 7k run and then went for a 6k walk but in terms of running I haven’t even been reaching half of my 17k weekly ambition. In terms of running fitness it has not been too bad. Even though I am not running as much and as often as I had planned, I can still run the 7k without feeling stretched or exhausted. I do run a bit slower than I would normally run though. To ‘compensate’ a little for my lack of running I am taking the stairs more when I am in the office. Without doing anything special except for not taking the elevator for only going 3 levels up, I have managed to climb 15 flights of stairs today even while limiting myself to the bare minimum of movements at work. I am happy though that it is no longer so hot because the staircases tend to get extra hot and stuffy fast, almost as if all air has been sucked out of them. To try and make up for lost mileage I am planning to take my running gear to work in autumn and winter because I know that by the time I get home it will be too dark and cold to still motivate myself to go for a run that time of year.
