This summer I decided to watch all the Daniel Craig James Bond movies again in sequence, starting with Casino Royale. The movie starts in black and white before the opening credits showing James Bond earning his 00 licence by killing 2 people. After the credits we switch to colour and the main story of the movie. The movie is an update of the James Bond character and the movie atmosphere to modern times, adding tension and grid a bit similar to what the Jason Bourne franchise brought to the spy movie genre. In my opinion this was very successful and Daniel Craig is my favourite Bond actor. The story telling in this movie is also well done with quite some good plot twists and surprises. The first part is still relatively traditional but the second half centred on the poker game has some high octane action and visceral violence not seen in previous Bond movies. Apart from just a new start with a new Bond it also was the start of a central story arc that spans all 5 Daniel Craig movies. If you have to choose from all the Bond movies and don’t want to watch them all then I would go for the ones with Daniel Craig. An excellent reboot.
