Why I Chose Refurbished iPhone 16 Pro Over iPhone 17

Recently one of our kids was in need of a new phone so I was going to get myself a new iPhone and give my current iPhone to him. At first I was considering to buy the new iPhone 17 Pro or Pro max but I found the price ticket prohibitive. Actually, coming from an iPhone 14 Pro the new iPhone 17 looked like a good alternative if it wasn’t for the lack of a zoom lens. My phone is often the only camera I have with me so I like the flexibility of the 3 lens setup of the iPhone Pro. By coincidence there was a refurbished iPhone 16 Pro on offer at a price quite a bit below the iPhone 17 price and after watching a couple of comparisons on YouTube I ended up getting a refurbished iPhone 16 Pro. Migration to the new phone went quite smooth although I did have to log in again in bank and authenticator apps but apart from this not too much of a hassle. Start migration on an evening and then went through the logins again the next day or so as the need arose. I have been using the phone for a month now and for my usage I don’t see big differences compared to my older iPhone 14 Pro except improved battery life and the 5x tele lens which is a significant tele increase coming with the iPhone 16 Pro. All in all I am quite happy with my decision not to shell out another 500 euros extra for the iPhone 17 Pro. In a few years from now I will upgrade to a new model and maybe pay the extra cash for an iPhone 20 or something like that. We’ll see, one thing I can predict already is that I will have to upgrade to a model with more than 128Gb by that time. Hopefully the negative impact of the AI hype on memory prices will have subdued a bit by then.
