Café Vicogne in Stuivekenskerke

In the weekend we went for a bike ride around Diksmuide and made a drink stop in Stuivekenskerke in Cafe Vicogne. It was sunny so we could sit outside. We were with 19 so some rearrangement of the tables and chairs on the terrace was required. The owner didn’t object as long as we placed everything back upon leaving. It is a very small bar and our host asked to order at the bar and pick it up once our order was ready. As we were outside she simply said she would give a yell to let us know that a tray with drinks was ready to pick up. A typical low profile, no nonsense old style type of bar which is rapidly becoming extinct. 30 years ago you had at least one in every village and one in every street in towns like Antwerp. Now it seems they only continue to exist in backwaters where a fancy pub cannot make enough profit. Prices were also from another era, being between half a euro and a full euro cheaper than in contemporary bars.
