I recently watched this movie from 2006 starring Denzel Washington, Val Kilmer, Paula Patton and Jim Caviezel again. The movie is a mix of the crime and science fiction genres. The movie starts with a terrorist bombing of a ferry and follows the investigation of ATF agent Doug Carlin, played by Denzel Washington. He is approached by Val Kilmer to make use of a secret novel technology developed by the government to investigate the crime and to find the terrorist played by Jim Caviezel. With the technology it is possible to look back ‘live’ 4 days in the past. By looking back 4 days at all data from surveillance cameras, satellite images and so on they try to identify the terrorist before he can strike again. It is a nice combination of traditional sleuthing base on human wit and high tech. The threat of another attack adds suspense and urgency and turns it into a thriller as well. The story centres around victim Clair Kuchever played by Paula Patton. Besides the story the movie is really carried by the performances of Denzel Washington, Jim Caviezel and Paula Patton. I truly enjoyed this movie with some smart twists in the plot to keep the suspense going until the very end. It certainly deserves a second viewing to catch details you might have missed the first time around.
