Borrel
Vrijdag 12 juni 2020. In de werkagenda staat de borrel gepland. Na overleg met Monique, Janko en Philippe eerder in de week beslist dat de eerste week van de opening van de horeca misschien niet de beste is om de borrel te laten doorgaan. Maar bij iemand thuis op het terras ziet iedereen zitten. Dat wordt het dus en ze komen bij mij op bezoek. Ik voorzie een chilli sin carne, rijst, qinoa, worst en salade voor onszelf en het bezoek. Check digits
A few weeks ago I was looking at how ISBN numbers are constructed and read that the last digit in the ISBN number is a so called check digit used to check for errors in the preceding digits. Check digits are also used in bank account numbers for example. The check digits are generated by an algorithm. For the love of vi!
Linux users seem to love vi as a text editor. There are even sites giving you reasons why you should use it. I guess it makes sense if you spend most of your time on the command line. If you use it every day then you will have no problem remembering all the key combinations to insert text, exit intert mode and exiting and saving files. As an infrequent user of text editors from the command line I have difficulty remembering all these keystrokes. As vi is always available on any unix and linux system it is of course useful…

Familiebezoek in corona tijd
Vandaag de eerste keer naar Schilde geweest voor een samenkomst sinds de lockdown. Eerst nog even snel gaan lopen want achter op mijn weekschema. Ging al bij al nog redelijk. Zal wel blij zijn als ik nieuwe schoenen heb want begin toch meer schokken te voelen. Volgende maandag op 8 juni heb ik een afspraak bij Runner’s World in Zaventem. Ben benieuwd. Voordien ging ik in Leuven bij Running Center maar die maken geen afspraken sinds ze terug open zijn na de lockdown. Who needs a calculator ?
Somewhere near the end of 2019 I needed a calculator to help our daughter with some math homework. Turns out I had a leaking battery problem and the contacts in the battery compartment had been corroded. After an initial clean and inserting new batteries nothing happened. Afraid that this was maybe beyond repair I quickly looked on amazon if I could still get a new one. Turns out that the HP50G model was no longer being sold. Back to Hockey
Deze week na lang wachten eindelijk weer hockey trainingen. Hannelore mocht woensdag al een eerste keer met haar team gaan trainen en omdat ikzelf met de start to hockey meedoen kon ze ook gisteren met mij mee, keepers zijn altijd nuttig. Niet teveel volk, veel prutsen bij mij en een uurtje rennen met tot 180 hartslagen per minuut. Weer goed afgezien dus en een mal figuur geslagen. Als je van dit soort humor houdt dan was het vandaag weer lachen geblazen. Open VLD komt met een wetsvoorstel voor de versoepeling van de regels voor het verlof in 2020. Dit alles om de prille heropstart niet te bemoeilijken. Gelukkig worden ze gesteund door de HR specialisten van SD worx die volgende analyse lieten optekenen: “Volgens (hr-specialist) SD Worx annuleerden in maart tien keer zoveel werknemers dan normaal hun vakantiedagen. 5k Challenge reached
Een voordeel van het corona virus is dat ik gedwongen veel meer thuis werk. Dat spaart pendeltijd uit, voor mij toch snel anderhalf uur per dag. Als ik de fiets neem dan is dat beweging maar anders is het vooral ‘s morgens toch maar aanschuiven. En de ad hoc gesprekken met mensen in de gang, tijdens de lunch of aan de koffie machine zijn er ook niet meer. Dat is jammer maar ook tijd die we weer anders kunnen invullen.
