Must-Visit Ferdinands: Lunch in Bad Bentheim

Recently we took our bikes for a ride to Bad Bentheim in Germany. The plan was to visit the Burg Bentheim but this turned out to be closed because part of the building was close to collapsing and need restauration first. Had we Googled the Burg we would have known. But then we would likely not have had an excellent lunch experience. When we arrived in Bad Bentheim we were looking for a place to eat and ended up having lunch in Ferdinands. This is located next to the Burg and we could sit outside and enjoy the view over the surroundings and the Burg wall. That way we had a ‘facsimile’ experience of the Burg visit. Our waitress was of Dutch descent so after my first introductory words the rest of the party could switch back to Dutch to order food and drinks. Food was good and came in copious German portions. It was hot but luckily we could hide under the large umbrella’s on the terrace. To quench the thirst we had some half liter German beers to go with the food. We had some Ceasar and Caprese salads and Tomahawks. This got us through the rest of the day and the evening: dinner came a bit too soon but to our good luck was served is smaller portions. I skipped desert none the less. If you are ever in Bad Bentheim looking for food I can wholeheartedly recommend Ferdinands.
