After contemplating and hesitating for a couple of years whether or not to buy a rice cooker I finally made the jump and bought a small rice cooker from Solis at a local store last weekend and used it for the first time yesterday. Use is super simple, simply add the number of cups of rice you want with the plastic cup that came with the cooker and then fill with water up to the corresponding marker. Close the lid and wait. After 20-30 minute the indicator switched from cooking to heating which allows you to keep the rice warm for a while after having cooked it. The instructions say you need to wait 5 to 10 minutes after the cooking stops to complete the process. Rice was perfectly cooked. My main reasons were to be more economical with water and rice compared to cooking in a normal pot. I didn’t have any rice sticking to the bottom like a crust so that part of the mission is achieved. Also used less water to rinse and boil the rice. The fact that you can start the process and not have to look at it anymore makes it also a bit more convenient if you have many things to prepare, you can simply start the process and as long as you start it soon enough so that the rice is ready before the rest of dinner then you are good to go, the heating function will keep the rice warm after cooking. The compact cooker I bought also doesn’t take much space so it fits into a cupboard with the rest of the things already stored there. For us the amount of rice you can cook in it is more than enough. I made the maximum amount and that left enough for a fried rice another day. For around 60 euro the item is also cheap, if it lasts. We’ll find out its longevity is also satisfactory soon enough.
