Discover Chalet des Bruyères: A Hidden Culinary Gem near Ronse

When we recently visited Ronse we had dinner at Chalet des Bruyères. This restaurant without pretences actually turned out to be a real discovery. Excellent food quality and very friendly service in an old house from the beginning of the twentieth century. The interior is maybe not special and the place is small so if you want to absolutely sure you get a table it is best to reserve. There are probably around 5 tables in a what looked like an annex to the main building. The menu is limited and if you are looking for a 5 course menu you are not at the right place. But they present themselves as the ideal place to come for some food and drinks after a day walking or biking. They have their home made cakes and a selection of bites and classics like salad with goat cheese or spaghetti bolognaise. I had the special of the day which were slowly cooked ribs and the others took the salad or spaghetti. It was all better than one would expect. As a starter we selected gyoza with wagyu and cod with a crust. They are called bar bites but are of real restaurant starter quality. Their menu has lots of different drinks and I discovered the Paix Dieu they have on tap, an excellent beer. After a very nice and scenic walk we finished off the day in Chalet de Bruyères in style.
