Discover Quintine: A Unique Beer from Ellezelles near Ronse

Recently we were in Ronse where I discovered a local beer called Quintine they had on tap. It is brewed by the Brasserie de Légendes which started from something that reads like a dream/hobby project of the founders. If you watch the video then you learn it is a fusion of 2 breweries and a local farm together. The brewery is quite recent, approximately 30 years old and they make beers with natural ingredients only. On the farm they grow their own barley and they claim to be the only brewery that does this. Quintine is the name of a 38 year old villager convicted for witchcraft and executed in 1610. The Quintine beer is available in a couple of flavors : blond, amber and bio. There is also a seasonal Christmas version. I tasted the blond one and it has a fresh, hoppy taste. I liked it but I found it a bit too fresh and cold after an afternoon walk out in the cold, something more heartening like a Chimay Blue would have been more suited in my situation. Still I was glad with the disovery of this new beer and brewery. The brewery is located in Ellezelles, less than 10 kilometres away from Ronse. They have quite a selection of beers and a brasserie where you can taste their beers and regional products. If you are not willing to make the trip but would still like to taste some of their beers then you can have look on their webshop.
