Last May I bought an Auk mini and planted some basil and parsley. As mentioned in another post growing the plants turned out to be as easy as claimed on the Auk website. The plants also lasted a good while : we finally decided they were over their peak in November. Partly this was because of maltreatment from our side during the vacation period with not enough cutting followed by not administering the advised amount of nutrients. Still, we had roughly 5 months of joy from the plants, offering multiple cuttings each week. And especially the taste of the basil was in another league compared to what we are used to buy in the supermarket. The Auk mini has 4 ‘pots’ to plant seeds in and we had gone 50-50 between basil and parsley but next time I would probably only plant parsley in 1 pot, simply because the produce would be more than enough for our needs. As we are still
experimenting we decided to try 3 different seeds this time : bell peppers, chilli peppers and cherry tomatoes. It took more than a week and a half before anything happened but now we have sprouts in 2 of the 3 pots, third one still pending. But again, getting the seeds to grow looks to be as simple as claimed : plant the seeds, fill the container with water and nutrients and be patient. I am curious to find out if the peppers and tomatoes also taste good and last many months. If this is the case I might be tempted to get a second Auk mini so that I can grow tomatoes, chillis and basil side by side.
Small update : since I wrote this post yesterday the third seedling appeared as well !
