Enjoy Craft Beers like the Baron at Batteliek: Mechelen’s Hidden Gem

In Mechelen there is a microbrewery located in an old church called Batteliek. You can go there for food or for drinks only. Obviously you can order their own beers with your food. If there is something you like you can also buy beer cans to enjoy at home. The Albert Heijn in Mechelen also sells some of their beers so you don’t even have to go all the way to Batteliek to buy one of their beers. Recently I tested their Baron. This is an unfiltered lager and it is quite nice. It combines a low alcohol percentage of a lager with extra taste because of its unfiltered nature. The Baron is a good example and it has a well balanced taste. It is soft, with taste and not too bitter or too pronounced like some IPAs. It can be enjoyed also by people that normally don’t like beer because of the bitter taste. Years ago the breweries came with ice beers to serve this market but although ice beers were soft, they lacked taste. I doubt real beer drinkers liked them much and they only were only good to quench a thirst on a hot summer evening. The Baron is a lot tastier beer that can be enjoyed for its taste as well.
