Last weekend we went for dinner in brasserie thijm in Schilde to celebrate a birthday. The place is spacious because the terrace is can be closed and heated. We had a table there and the staff switched on the heater above our table upon request. We took the menu which consisted of a starter with a couple of small dishes to share. The main course was a choice between steak and seabass and for desert there was mascarpone. Although the dishes are traditional Belgian they come with a twist of Asian inspiration. For example the steak was not what you would normally expect but a barbecued steak that was sliced in pieces similarly to how beef is sliced in Chinese cuisine. This made the menu a bit more adventurous and we had a not so every day variation of traditional dishes. The food tasted good and staff was friendly although they were so busy we had to remind them a few times about drinks we ordered. When we got to the desert no one felt like a heavy mascarpone and we were offered ice cream or coffee as an alternative. We enjoyed our evening out and I can imagine going back once on warm summer evening to enjoy the Asia inspired flavors in the open air.
