Old Club – Keerbergen D1
Last season the young Dames 1 team of Keerbergen Hockey Tigers promoted to the Belgian Nationale 2 league. On September 4th they kicked off their season at Old Club de Liege. The nervousness was visible in their game and in a tense match they finally lost the season opener 3-2. But the game was close and really a draw would have been a more representative result of the game. Unfortunately a couple of open chances were missed and no advantage was taken of the fact that the goalie of Old Club had to be replaced due to an injury in…

Boekhandel Dominicanen

Maastricht
With the youngest on scouts camp we went for a short overnight trip to Maastricht. We stayed in the Kaboom Hotel next to the central station. We travelled by car and could stay in the car park next to the station. From the car park to the hotel was a simple matter of crossing the street. The hotel is a bit trendy but the rooms were nice and spacy with all comfort to be expected. Even though situated right across the station we didn’t hear any noise from the trains. Breakfast was OK but a bit pricey. I can recommend…

The Musketeers
After visiting the Verbeke Foundation discussed in another post we went for dinner at a nearby pub called The Musketeers in Sint-Gillis-Waas. They brew their own special beers and serve traditional dishes. The beer is apparently quite famous but I must confess I hadn’t heard of it before. No matter, we had a few amongst us that could advise on what to try so we started out on the terrace drinking and tasting. As an IPA fan I tried their Jack’s Precious IPA which is quite nice. For dinner we moved inside as it was getting a bit chilly. The…

Verbeke Foundation
In July we managed to get in touch with family while doing an activity. This year we went to visit the Verbeke Foundation. It is celebration its 15th anniversary this year but personally I never visited it before. It is a bit an eclectic collection of art and objects placed in a park. Don’t expect traditional art like in a museum setting but for example a strip of highway including lamp post and crash barrier. Other objects are for example a giant Russian helicopter or small bungalows made out of a type of plastic. Some of it is industrial waste…

Top Gun. Maverick
Went to see Top Gun Maverick in the movie theatre. Initially I was hesitating a bit because I found the first Top Gun a bit too extremely macho. The machismo was well acted but it made the characters not very endearing to me. Reading early reviews of Maverick I then changed my mind mainly because the visuals were supposedly spectacular and not just CGI based. During our short trip to Ter Helme we talked to some family members that had already seen it and they were very enthusiastic. So the first weekend after we got back home we went to…

Six Ones on the dash
We just came back from summer holidays in Corsica. We went by car and on one of the last days on the island the odometer reached 111111 km. Next occasion for such a number will be after double mileage but the car will not be with me anymore by then. A couple of years ago I was still adding miles fast but then I changed project and didn’t have to drive to other sites anymore reducing the yearly kilometers by 10%. Then came covid and now structurally working from home 40% of my time which further reduced the kilometers driven.…
