Sunday I was planning to go for another bike ride again but it didn’t materialise. Around 3:30 I decided that I had to do something pro active to compensate for the upcoming dinner which would include a lot of food and sitting at the table with some exercise so I went for a run. Maison Belge
Sunday we went for dinner at Maison Belge to celebrate a couple of May birthdays. We’ve been there a few times before and so far it was always a success. The kids opted out this time in favour of a home made pizza + Netflix movie evening. It saved us the worry that the dinner would take too long for them. De Brasserie
Recently I was home alone with my son on a Saturday evening with the other family members out for dinner so we decided to go for dinner ourselves in De Brasserie in Keerbergen. The name may suggest this is to be a place on the lower end of the culinary ladder but it is actually more of a regular restaurant than a Brasserie. Jan Primus route
As part of our preparation for Limburgs Mooiste on June 3 we cycled the Jan Primus route in the neighbourhood of Rotselaar. It is a 72km route with a lot short climbs around Rotselaar so it was a good practice. With the approach to the route and back we cycled almost 80km this time. A Mathematician’s Apology, G. H. Hardy (ISBN 978-938831814-3, Hawk Press)
Read this short and apparently well known book from early twentieth century. I came across a reference to it in another book recently although I don’t recall where. Anyway, the book kind of tries to justify being a pure mathematician. With the focus on pure mathematics utility is discarded as a possible justification by Hardy from the beginning but he still discusses utility in a few chapters. La Brasserie des Etangs Mellaerts
Hockey season is nearing its end but not without another busy Saturday with 2 away games on the same day. This time we had to leave around 9:30 for our first match against La Louvière. Because they are renovating their site the match was at Lynx. Not as far but traffic was bad with a lot of road constructions added to the mix to make it worse. Preparing for Limburgs Mooiste
Longer ago than I care to remember I participated in this organised bike event around Valkenburg. I wanted to go again but a few years the hockey season was still ongoing on the weekend of the event and then we had covid. Now, finally there are no conflicts so on June the 3rd I will participate again. Chasing Venus, Andrea Wulf (ISBN 978-009953832-5, Windmill Books)
This book came out in 2012 when there was another transit of Venus approaching and describes the attempts in the eighteenth century to measure the transit of Venus to determine the size of the solar system. I read this book in a Dutch translation at the end of 2014 the first time and recently read it again in the original English version. I found this a wonderful book in 2014 and today after having read the book again I see no reason to change my opinion. It was the first book by Andrea Wulf that I read and her writing…

Wabi Sabi Leuven
I went for dinner not so long ago in Wabi Sabi Leuven located in the Muntstraat. We normally go to the Bonheiden location but this time I went with some colleagues so Leuven was closer. The quality of the food is very similar between both locations but in Leuven the restaurant is located in an old house which has a lot more charm and character compared to the Bonheiden prefab bungalow. First impressions of The StoryGraph
In another post I mentioned the negative image of Goodreads because it is owned by Amazon and considered as not the right platform for book lovers by some. The StoryGraph was proposed as an alternative for quality seekers. I decided to check it out as I am not a big fan of Amazon myself mainly because of how they treat their workforce.
