Hockey Women’s World Cup in Amstelveen
On Sunday July 3rd we went to watch 2 games in Amstelveen. As it was only a 2 hour drive it was an opportunity to watch the Dutch team play against Germany. As a bonus we could watch England play India as well. With Maddie Hinch in the goal for England this was a bonus to see her play again after having seen her play in Rotterdam with Tilburg not so long ago. A ‘classic’ from 1937. The subtitle is ‘The Lives and Achievements of the Great Mathematicians from Zeno to Poincaré’. This is not completely correct as the last chapter is dedicated to Cantor and not to Poincaré. The penultimate chapter is for Poincaré. The first chapter is as usual an introduction and Zeno is tackled in chapter 2. From that point of view the title makes sense again. About 20 years ago I bought myself a Koga Signature. I was working in The Netherlands at the time and the government still subsidised the purchase of bicycles. You could trade in some of your vacation days for money to buy a bike. Back Saver
As mentioned in an earlier post I try to commute as much as possible on my speed pedelec. Unfortunately I don’t live in The Netherlands where they have quality bike paths. I am already happy if there is a bike path that I have to share with pedestrians. Not ideal on a speed pedelec but I have found a way around it that works for me : get out of bed half an hour late and start biking when school has begun, no more need to share with pedestrians. Speed Pedelec Commuting
Back in 2017 I sold my motorbike and bought a second hand speed pedelec to bike to work. Stromer was gaining popularity and I did a couple of test rides on one. Besides being fast the bike was obviously also very expensive and I decided to opt for a second hand demo model of Cannondale instead, a Control E Speed. It had been driven for only 500km and I could buy if with a 25% price reduction.
