This weekend of 12 & 13 April 2025 the European Championship for half and full marathon was held in Leuven and Brussels. On New Year’s Eve our daughter decided to run the half marathon which was held in Leuven on Saturday. She aimed to run it in 1h40 and succeeded to reach her objective. I always use my age to justify being a lot slower than her but watching the runners on Saturday I could not ignore seeing a lot of ‘elderly’ runners that were even faster than her. Family-Friendly Lunch Spot: La Folie Greque Review
Yesterday we went for lunch at la folie grecque in Woluwé-St-Pierre. We went there with friends after a hockey match at Orée which is about a kilometre away. The restaurant is located in a street that you will typically find in small towns or villages in Flanders. If someone would drop you there without you knowing where you were, you would never guess you were in Brussels. Last weekend we went for dinner in brasserie thijm in Schilde to celebrate a birthday. The place is spacious because the terrace is can be closed and heated. We had a table there and the staff switched on the heater above our table upon request. We took the menu which consisted of a starter with a couple of small dishes to share. I borrowed this book from my father in law who was very enthousiast about it. The book already made it to the New York Times bestseller list. Thomas Hertog is professor theoretical Physics and cosmology at the KUL in Leuven, Belgium and was recently a guest in the radio program Voorproevers with Annemie Peeters to talk about this book. Ik kreeg dit boek te leen van mijn schoonvader die er wildenthousiast over was. Het is origineel uitgegeven in het Engels en al New York Times bestseller geweest. Thomas Hertog is professor theoretische natuurkunde en cosmologie aan de KUL en was te gast bij Annemie Peeters in het programma Voorproevers naar aanleiding van dit boek. Cheljabinsk-65. A nuclear accident waiting to happen again
Cheljabinsk-65 is nowadays known as Mayak, one of the biggest nuclear complexes in the world. In 1957 a tank with nuclear waste exploded at Mayak, spreading nuclear materials for miles around. The Soviet government hushed up the accident. They also didn’t inform people living there that the facility was dumping radioactive waste water in the river Tetsja which was also used for swimming and as source for drinking water. Accidents kept happening at the Mayak facility after 1957. The last incident at which a lot of radiation was released was in 2007.
