Dining at Wabi Sabi Leuven

Last week we went for dinner at Wabi Sabi in Leuven. We have mostly gone to Wabi Sabi in Bonheiden because it is nearby. This time we decided to combine a trip to Leuven with dinner at Wabi Sabi in Leuven. Quality in Leuven is similar. We like Wabi Sabi over some other sushi restaurants because the sushi is not too sweet and they also don’t have cheese in the sushi like at some other places. If you are a connaisseur or a sushi purist then this class of sushi restaurant is probably not for you but if you are open to this interpretation of sushi then I think Wabi Sabi is a good place to go. We used to go to a place called Sikinoya which was better and liked by some of my Japanese colleagues but this restaurant seems to not have survived the multiple covid closures in 2020 and 2021. But Wabi Sabi is OK for us. Their site in Leuven is housed in an old building and has more dining out atmosphere than the one in Bonheiden so if you want to enjoy the eating out aspect then I would recommend Leuven over Bonheiden for sure. Staff is friendly and prices are competitive. Their boats offer a nice variety of sushis and if you have someone in the party that doesn’t like sushi then they also have some Thai inspired dishes. I haven’t tested those so I cannot vouch for their quality. I would not go expecting authentic Thai though.
