Traveling home from Croatia we stopped again in Ulm after leaving Lesce. Lesce to Ulm was a little over 500 km and took us most of the day. Looking for a place for lunch we ended up in restaurant Senses in Siegsdorf in Germany, just across the border with Austria. This turned out to be a charmingly old fashioned type of bar where we had good food sitting outside in the sun. According to trip advisor it is also the #1 nightlife spot in Siegsdorf which probably means there are no trendy modern places around. But if you are looking for food and drinks I can find no fault. It is located on a little square with some parking spaces and next to a hotel. No car traffic passing in front of the terrace except the occasional car that is entering or leaving a parking spot. After lunch we continue to Ulm where we stay in B&B Hotel Ulm. It is a hotel, not a B&B and this one is close to the railway station of Ulm. We are on a high floor and don’t hear a lot of disturbing sound from the trains. The hotel is a modern budget hotel with only a little staff. After our check in we don’t see any personnel anymore. At breakfast there is a buffet and everything is self service and check out is a simple matter of dropping the room key/card at the counter. When we enter the room we see a large drawing with E=mc2 on it. Looking on the internet we find that Einstein was born in Ulm. Ulm looks like a charming old town but we don’t have enough time to really explore it. We find a place to eat and walk over. We read in the guide that there is a beautiful church tower worth seeing and that is the only city ‘attraction’ we visit as it happens to be near the restaurant. We find a table outside under the trees at Tanivera, an italian restaurant. We are lucky because every restaurant we passed along the way was fully packed. The setting is very nice with the trees and next to a small stream. The food is rather mediocre in the sense that it lacks finesse. Some people may like it but I didn’t enjoy it as much as many other restaurants we visited during this vacation. If back in Ulm I would look for another restaurant to try.
