Some people enjoy the changing of the seasons and look forward to a cold winter, preferably with lots of snow. Not me, the cold, and certainly snow, interfere with my ambition to run all year long. If there is snow I will not even contemplate going for a run. If it is below 5 C I also have a hard time to get out into the cold. This week it was finally a week with temperatures consistently below 5 C and I managed only 1 run so far this week. Maybe I will try to force myself to go today as the sun is shining and the thermometer indicates 4 C, might just be endured, just.
I got some hope reading an article about winter earlier this week with some facts known and unknown to me. Meteorological winter started December 1st and astronomical winter December 21st. Where I am living the longest night was 16 hours, 16 minutes and 50 seconds. We are now a week later and days are lengthening again. But, until tomorrow, December 29th, the sun will continue to rise at a later moment. Earliest sun down was on 12th of December and since then the sun has been going down later every day. In the beginning this lengthening was only a few seconds each day but by December 21st it was already up to half a minute a day and by January day length will increase by a whole minute a day. By the end of January we will have gained about 1,5 hours of daylight again. Can’t wait for winter to be over (even if it hardly even started yet).
