When we recently went for a couple of walks around Herresbach we stopped at Belgium Peak Beer on our way back home for lunch. The original plan was to go for lunch around Longfaye as that is were our walk started and ended but it was on a public holiday and the places we planned to go to was closed. Google search came to the rescue and we picked Belgium Peak Beer as the alternative. Our walk was approximately 14km long trailing the border of the nature reserve. As it was not too long and we thought we would be back by lunch time we didn’t bother to take much food along. So by the time we reached Peak Beer it was 2PM and we were hungry. Belgium Peak Beer is a modern ‘American’ style microbrewery type of place. You can come for a drink or for lunch or dinner and the place is situated near the highest point of Belgium. They have a large terrace with a splendid view but when we were visiting the sky looked ominous and we opted to sit inside. Sure enough, half way through our lunch it started raining cats and dogs and people sitting outside had to run to avoid being drenched. The interior is simple with lots of wood and a high ceiling. The back wall towards the terrace is all glass so you can also enjoy the scenery from within. Apart from their various beers you can get the same drinks as elsewhere. Menu is short with some classical Belgian dishes but there is something available for everyone : meat, fish, vegan choices are included. I took a Thai green curry with chicken which was OK if you are not expecting real Thai curry. In Belgium there is a long culinary history of chicken curry with a curry based on Indian curry. The green curry sauce at Belgium Peak Beer is that type of curry, mild, even a little bit sweet and certainly not spicy. I would call this a sauce or dressing, not a curry. Nothing wrong with it as long as you know what you are ordering and will be getting. The other dishes we ordered were of a similar quality, OK but not outstanding. If you are looking for finesse I wouldn’t recommend it but if you want some simple pub grub then no need to hesitate. You can bring your kids without worrying that they will annoy the other guests. Their beer was nice and the fact that it is local ads to the charm. They also have a shop so if you are a real fan you can buy some beer to take home as well. They also have a large parking lot and created a couple of hikes starting and ending at the restaurant/shop. So you can combine finding a walk, a place to eat and a parking space all in one. I will certainly go back for a one day trip with a walk around the place.
