Last weekend we had to drop off our son for a scouting camp in Wirtzfeld so we decided to go for a few walks in the area and stay a night. We picked B&B De Eifelhoeve in Herresbach based on the location, the price and the ratings. A B&B typically adds a bit of authenticity compared to the standard hotel chains and this was certainly the case here. They describe themselves as charming and simple. And although the rooms are not luxurious they are not Spartan either. We had a room with an electrically adjustable bed, a rather fancy shower cabin and a toilet with a ventilator. So simple certainly doesn’t mean primitive here. Some of the furniture and decoration is old and you can still see the old structure of the building so from that point of view it is maybe simple and the room we stayed in was not large. We were basically only there to get changed after a walk before going for dinner and to sleep of course so the size of the room didn’t matter. If you would have to stay in the room a whole day because of bad weather I imagine you would want a bit more comfort in the form of a comfortable chair for reading for example. In case of good weather you can always go outside and sit in the Inner Court. They have some games like table tennis and darts you can play in the shed and even a pool. So again, simple does not mean primitive. Breakfast was up to B&B standards and we enjoyed eggs cooked to our liking, American pancakes and home made granola. All served with a friendly smile and a bit of humour by the Dutch hosts. In the breakfast area there is also a fridge with soft drinks, beer and wine that you can take from during the day or evening. Self service , you are asked to write down what you took on a piece of paper so it can be added to the bill. A simple gesture of trust that perfectly describes the overall atmosphere of the place.
