Dining and Stay at Stiemerheide Hotel: A Gourmet Experience

We spent 2 nights at hotel Stiemerheide and had dinner in their restaurant Moonstone. The hotel is next to a golf range so many people come to the hotel to play golf. The hotel has a bistro restaurant and then Moonstone which is a bit more formal. There is also restaurant Kristalijn which is more upper class and has a Michelin star. Restaurant Moonstone covers the middle ground. We had a 3 course menu with starter, main course and desert. The starter was slightly baked Tuna with a compote of Japanese pear. This was very good. The main course was a steak with vegetables and oven baked potatoes with a cheese gratin. This was also very good quality. As we were there over the Easter weekend we got chocolate eggs on top of the cookies that came with the coffee. The name of the restaurant refers to a piece of moon rock that is on display in the restaurant. The shape of the room is round and some of the furniture is adapted to the shape. We were a party of 8 and we were seated at a strangely shaped irregular oval table. Although the restaurant menu and quality targets an audience that is looking for good quality food spending a few hours at dinner it is not overly formal : no dress code and families with little kids are also welcome. This is a quality restaurant that lives up to its Michelin Bib Gourmand and Gault&Millau rating, not a standard hotel restaurant. If you like fine dining with good wine accompanying the food then you should consider combining the restaurant with a stay at the hotel. There is a lot to see in the area ranging from nature, cycling or shopping to various types of musea and art.
