I recently was tipped about this Netflix series about the atomic bomb and the Cold War so I decided to give it a try. It fitted with much of my recent reading about Oppenheimer and the making of the atomic bomb by Richard Rhodes and Leslie Groves. The series has 9 episodes of roughly 70 minutes each and focuses mostly on the Cold War, the making of the atomic bomb is covered in the first episode. Much of what is covered in the series that is related to the atomic bomb and the nuclear arms race can also be read in Command and Control by Eric Schlosser. Still, this is a good recap with some interviews of people involved in the nuclear arms race strategy. The bulk of the series discusses also other political aspects of the Cold War like Gorbatchev, glasnost, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the rise of Poetin and how all of this has lead to where we are today with NATO and the Russians invading Ukraine. With so many conflicting opinions being touted every day on social media and in the press about the war in Ukraine this series gives a better background to start to form your own opinion. Time well spent watching this documentary.
