After some years of hesitating I finally bought my own PerfectDraft machine and a Pro one at that. Ever since my wife stopped drinking wine because the sulfites give her headaches I am mostly drinking beer. But there is never room in the fridge and one beer is too little while 2 are often too much. So I often throw away half of the second one. The continous stocking of new bottles and then bringing back the empty one is also a drag. For these reasons and more I was considering to buy a PerfectDraft. But they are not exactly cheap plus the choice was a bit limited for a long time. Now I finally bought one after seeing the choice has gone up considerably. When I saw they had Hefe Weizen and even unfiltered Stella I figured there limited choice was no longer a reason not to buy one. The price was still an obstacle but they had an offer for 334 euro including 2 glasses + a keg of regular Stella. That made it borderline palatable. I have had it for a week now and although not a big Stella fan myself I have to say I am impressed by the taste of the beer, so much better than lukewarm from a bottle :-). Never thought I would enjoy the taste of a Stella. Even my wife appreciated the taste (she enjoys her occasional half glass). The logistics are not the greatest as you almost have to order online if you want something else than Stella, Jupiler or Leffe and I don’t see it changing as it will likely remain a bit of a niche product for real beer lovers. For the casual beer drinker there are to many drawbacks : cost of the tap, cost per glass of beer (it is cheaper to buy bottles) and having to empty a keg within a month after opening it. But if you are like me and drink a glass of beer instead of wine with dinner then the volume is not a big issue. One keg is 6 liters, the equivalent of roughly 18 bottles. So spread over a month you can easily stay below the weekly ‘health’ limit. If you want to know more about the tap and available beers, have a look on the PerfectDraft website. They also have the cheaper model available made by Philips.
