Another comic book inspired movie. I didn’t know about the comic book origin when I saw this movie. I kind of stumbled across it on Netflix and started watching. A lot of unexpected star actors participate in this comic book adaptation : Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Morgan Freeman, Hellen Mirren and John Malkovich to name a few. The visual style and over the top hilarious action are true to its origin. Although not superheroes in the classical sense the characters in the story certainly have superhuman skills. It is in essence a traditional spy story with a bad government trying to cover up things from the past. As a result a group of REDs (Retired and Extremely Dangerous) has to come back into action. Added to this is a fair bit of humour coming from the over the top action and the paranoid character played by John Malkovich. His performance is really superb and makes this film stand out. I have watched it again recently with my son and it was still funny, some of the dialogues are hilarious.
