Some time ago we were in Mechelen to watch a Onze Natuur in cinema Lumiere with friends and we were looking for a place to eat afterwards. We ended up in Batteliek. It is located a bit out of the city centre next to the canal. We walked along the water from the center which took half an hour or so but if you prefer you can park your car close to Batteliek as well. It is a microbrewery located in an old church where you buy their beers to take home but you can enjoy them there or have something to eat. The concept is oriented at food sharing and you can order many dishes in various portions. You can scan a qr code on your table and order and pay drinks and food electronically. That way you can sit down with your group, order drinks and tapas and then decide to order more dishes ad hoc as the evening progresses, no need to decide your complete menu from the start. The interior and the dynamic ordering philosophy make it special. The brewery is linked to Het Anker and the beers we tried were nice. There is quite a bit of choice in the food section and if you are looking for something a bit different compared to the traditional brasserie food then this is a place to try.
