As part of our preparation for Limburgs Mooiste on June 3 we cycled the Jan Primus route in the neighbourhood of Rotselaar. It is a 72km route with a lot short climbs around Rotselaar so it was a good practice. With the approach to the route and back we cycled almost 80km this time. This went fine but we were better prepared than the week before and had taken some energy bars along. We also managed to find back a few saddle bags for the bikes in which we put the bars, a chain lock and a tyre repair kit which we will need on the 3rd as well so also logistics wise this was a good preparation. Weather was a lot better with the sun shining all day. After roughly 50km we figured it was time to stop for some lunch but we were unlucky. After having passed some nice terraces in the first half of the tour we found no more place to eat. We passed a few closed places (at least 3) and then went to De Brousse which was open but didn’t serve food. It has a nice terrace though and friendly staff with a lot of beer choice. You can pay cash or with your phone, so modern. In lots of places you don’t need to have your wallet with you anymore, as long as you bring your phone you’re covered. To me that is progress. The also had crisps so we took that, better than nothing so to speak. We were only a few kilometers away from Arboretum Wespelaar which was on our route so we stopped there next to say hello and get a snack from the vending machine. We enjoyed the sun sitting outside eating a waffle and drinking a Stella and Coke. From there it was a short trip back home around 4PM. I started preparing dinner and then sat down for some reading. It was a nice day outside enjoying the weather and the terrain, burning a lot of calories and activating the leg muscles. We managed the 80km distance and the climbs along the way quite well so from that point of view Limburgs Mooiste is looking good. One more practice ride and then we will be quite ready.
