I don’t remember how I discovered sushi but I think I first ate it in the nineties. Since then I have been a fan and with me the family, kids included (when they finally arrived). Nowadays sushi restaurants are quite common and every now and then we go for sushi. One restaurant we go to relatively often is Wabi Sabi in Bonheiden. The first time we went it was actually for the teppanyaki but they don’t have that anymore. I believe the place closed during covid and then re opened but without teppanyaki. The sushi is decent and priced OK. A lot of people come for take away as the interior is not the most charming but in the summer you can sit outside on a pleasant terrace behind the restaurant so that you are shielded a bit from the traffic on the busy road in front. We typically start with edamame and sometimes gyoza or tempura and then take one of their boats which offer a lot of variety. I will not claim this excellent and authentic sushi, it isn’t even run by Japanese, but it is better than the fare you get in the supermarkets nowadays and they stay away from making everything sweet. It is good enough that we keep going back but only for the food, not for an evening out in a nice and relaxing environment.
