Today we went looking for a student room in Leuven for our daughter and we had time to lunch between visiting 2 rooms. As the second place was not far from Leuven central station we decided to eat at La Royale. This is part of The Lodge group but it is definitely better than the original Lodge in Heverlee from this group. It was a gender separation lunch with the women going for a Greek salad and a salad with scampi and the men going for a burger. We arrived around 12:30 which was early so we could. pick a table. By the time we left at 13:45 the place was almost full. The tex mex burgers came with fries and a small salad. The meat was juicy and tasty and the fries were also OK. For a light lunch it was a bit much though. The salads were also copious and good. Located at the corner of the Bondgenotenlaan we could watch people walking into town while we were waiting for our food. It is strange how you sometimes see people walking by themselves talking to no one. Probably on the phone with a headset but it does look weird. The interior of La Royale is nice with a lot of wood. It gives the place a cosy atmosphere, ideal for a chat over a drink while waiting for the train. Not cheap but everything has become more expensive last year with the inflation and at least they didn’t reduce the portions.
