Space – The Human Quest

This week was a school holiday week. This is always an opportunity to do something together as a family and searching the internet we came across this exhibition. It is an interactive display of the history of space exploration, from the first unmanned flights from the Russians and Americans to the manned Gemini and then Apollo missions to the moon. Besides history the expo also current exploration programs from NASA and ESA like for example the International Space Station, the James Webb telescope and the Arianne program. The various private companies from Musk, Branson and Bezos that offer commercial space flights make the link to the plans for future Moon and Mars missions from NASA and ESA. There are many replicas on scale and some to real size and every exhibit is accompanied by text and a spoken audio guide. Some parts of the audio guide cover fun facts and are told by Lieven Scheire and there are 2 versions of the audio guide, 1 for adults and 1 for children so the exhibits can be enjoyed by both young and old. There is a mix of replicas, text, audio and movies and this is necessary as it is quite an exhibition packed with information. We took more than 1.5 hours to get through it and skipped a few things here and there to avoid getting completely saturated. We all enjoyed the exhibition which was a fun way to learn new things about the past and future of space exploration. An afternoon well spent.
