The Musketeers

After visiting the Verbeke Foundation discussed in another post we went for dinner at a nearby pub called The Musketeers in Sint-Gillis-Waas. They brew their own special beers and serve traditional dishes. The beer is apparently quite famous but I must confess I hadn’t heard of it before. No matter, we had a few amongst us that could advise on what to try so we started out on the terrace drinking and tasting. As an IPA fan I tried their Jack’s Precious IPA which is quite nice. For dinner we moved inside as it was getting a bit chilly. The interior looks like a bit like a factory hall that got a make over. A bit clean and trendy but still OK: I had a Mexican style salad with taco’s, guacamole etcetera. So if you don’t feel like having the traditional fare or are looking for vegetarian dishes then that is certainly possible. The salad was quite good, not spectacular but if you go to a brewery you shouldn’t expect haute cuisine. After dinner we finished off with a whiskey barrel aged type of beer. This one was very well done with a delicate taste and not overdoing it with respect to whiskey barrel taste or the alcohol percentage. If you like to try new beers and want something else that mass produced lager then this is a good destination.
