Six Ones on the dash

odometer 111111kmWe just came back from summer holidays in Corsica. We went by car and on one of the last days on the island the odometer reached 111111 km. Next occasion for such a number will be after double mileage but the car will not be with me anymore by then. A couple of years ago I was still adding miles fast but then I changed project and didn’t have to drive to other sites anymore reducing the yearly kilometers by 10%. Then came covid and now structurally working from home 40% of my time which further reduced the kilometers driven. Also, no longer being tolerant to standing still in traffic jams I switched almost completely to speed pedelec for my commute. Nowadays most kilometers come on account of traveling to hockey matches all over the country. Looking at each match individually the distances don’t look like much but with 3 people playing games it does add up. So instead of an overall reduction in mileage of 50% it has only gone down by roughly 25%. But these kilometers are at least personally more worthwhile and also more justifiable as hauling around hockey goalie gear on a bicycle is not very practical and the distances are also too big to cover by bike in a reasonable amount of time.
