Today we met with friends in Cadzand to celebrate the ‘lentefeest’ of their youngest kid who recently turned 12. There were a few speeches and gifts and then we went for a late lunch on the beach at Dok 14. For me the weather was almost perfect. In the sunshine it was just warm enough to walk outside in a shirt with long sleeves. You can be outside and not too warm yet to exercise. A few degrees warmer would be even better because then you can sit outside without feeling cold. Today we had lunch inside so it didn’t matter. Obviously the view at Dok 14 is splendid even when sitting inside. The beach in The Netherlands is so much nicer compared to Belgium where the coast is littered with too many concrete ‘high-rises’. Food at Dok 14 is unpretentious, you don’t go there for haute cuisine. But they have something for all tastes, vegetarian dishes; fish and meat. We had snacks as a starter and there was a lot of variety. If you stop here during a walk for some food and drinks but don’t want to have a real lunch then the Beach and Bites section on the menu is certainly recommended. We took a small ‘vriendenplank’ to share as a starter as we were having a main dish as well. The burgers and the fish we had as main course were both simple but good. They also have a wide choice of beers and even Duvel on tap. You don’t find this in a lot of places so went for this of course. After lunch the kids went onto the beach to play while we had another drink and talked some more. We had a very relaxing afternoon in the sunshine and Dok 14 is an ideal place for this.
