Last Sunday we went to watch this game of Tilburg D1 away at Rotterdam. Since it was announced that Maddie Hinch was returning to the Netherlands to play in the promotieklasse with Tilburg we had the plan to go and watch her play. Unfortunately Tilburg D1 always play their games on Sunday at approximately the same time as we are playing so it never worked out so far. Now that our own competition ended on May first there finally a chance to go and watch the legendary Maddie live. It was a one and half hour drive to Rotterdam but it was well worth it. The skill and intensity level of Tilburg was quite impressive and made the game a joy to watch. Maddie didn’t have much of a chance to show her skill and even though Tilburg had 90% of the game they lost by 2-1 in the end. If you don’t score from the chances you get then you cannot win. But on the other hand, if the best team would always win it would be quite boring as well. After the game Hannelore got her courage together and asked Maddie to sign her new stick. So even though it was a bit disappointing to see Tilburg loose undeservedly it was still a good game to watch and a stick got autographed. Plus, we now know it will be worth coming back for a game next season when it fits the agenda. Hopefully Tilburg will still manage to secure their promotion in the coming play off games.
