Long Way Down

In 2007, 3 years after the Long Way Round, Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman Long Way Down went on a second motorcycle trip together. This time they went all the way from John ‘O Groats to Cape Town in South Africa and they called the trip Long Way Down. They had the BMW R1200GS at their disposal this time which people say is less heavy and nimbler compared to the R1150GS they rode on Long Way Round. The other team members like Claudio, Jimmy and Russ and David also joined again. Compared to Long Way Round this trip is even more about the nature and the people and cultures they meet and less about any difficulties encountered. Another addition to the dynamic is that Ewan’s wife Eve joins for part of the journey. Long Way Down is really more of the same but if you look high level at the 2 series and the different atmosphere you could say Long Way Round was a commercial for the BMW R1150 GS and Long Way Down is a commercial for Africa. I found it quite enjoyable even though I am not a big Africa fan in the sense that it is not high on my list of vacation destinations. Not that I wouldn’t want to go but there are so many other places I still want to visit first. Even so, watching the show you can only be mesmerised by the natural beauty and the friendliness of the people they meet. I would say this is for the fans of the genre and Africa mainly. Besides the different continent that is being traveled through there is nothing really new here compared to Long Way Round.
