Kung Fu Killer is a 2015 Hong Kong martial arts movie starring Donnie Yen. Yen plays Hahou Mo, a police martial arts instructor that is imprisoned after killing a man by accident in a fight. When a mysterious killer starts to pick off top martial artists Yen’s character volunteers to help the police to find the killer. As the story evolves it becomes clear that Hahou Mo knows more about the killer’s motives than what he is telling the police. The story follows the killer as he challenges the different martial artists each specialised in a different area with the objective to defeat and eliminate them all. The last target will be Hahou Mo himself who the killer considers to be the greatest martial artist of all. If he succeeds in his plan he will crown himself as the top martial artist alive. This simple story allows for a lot of fight scenes, each involving different fighting styles and weapons. Connaisseurs will probably tell you the movie pays tribute to many martial arts heroes of the past. But you don’t have to know all the references to enjoy this movie. The choreography of the fighting scenes is well done, there is a suspense element with the viewer waiting for the killer to call on his next victim and the ambiguous relationship between Hahou Mo and the killer. Donnie Yen is both an excellent martial artist and actor and his performance as an actor really draws you into the movie. Nice one.
