Warrior Nun Season 1

Recently I watched the first season of this Netflix original. Like many others this is an adaptation of a comic book about a ‘superhero’. Or maybe to put it more correctly, about someone with superhuman abilities. Eva, the main character has spent most of her life crippled and tied to a bed in an orphanage. When she dies at age 19 she is brought back to life when a secret sect of demon hunting nuns hide a magical halo in her body after the previous bearer died in an attack. Finally being able to walk Eva doesn’t want to join the battle against evil but just enjoy life. The evil spirits are out to get the halo inside her so a normal life is not an option for Eva. She must chose between forever running, capitulating to evil and dying again or joining the fight. The first season follows Eva as she struggles to come to terms with her second life. The warrior nuns are the western female equivalent of the Shaolin monks and so it will be no surprise that the series is packed with fighting sequences. The fighting is mixed with themes from religion and belief giving it a bit of a dark undercurrent. I found this quite enjoyable and gripping. So much in fact that I binge watched the whole season in 2 days. The season ends a bit open but not to worry a second season has been announced !
