Back To the Future 2

A few weeks ago we decided to watch the trilogy as a family. I had only seen the first movie as a teenager in the eighties. The second one I hadn’t seen at all and from the third I had caught a few glimpses while zapping. Watching the first movie again after 30 years was a pleasant surprise. I had expected it to be a disappointment but it turned out to be still enjoyable. We had been warned by friends that the second movie was the weakest of the three so we were not expecting too much of it. Even so it was still a complete disappointment. I am not going to mince words, this is an absolutely terrible movie. Where the first movie goes back 30 years in time with Marty having to make sure his parents still fall in love the second one goes 30 years into the future to save his children from getting involved in crime. But that is just the first part of the movie and the second half of the movie has Marty and doc going back to 1955 to undo the consequences of their trip to 2015. This part is the first movie but with 2 Marties and docs being in 1955 at the same time both trying to save their future. Many scenes return with the same jokes but this time without being funny. The movie is not that long but we kept looking at our watches wondering how much longer it would take. Every time we thought the story was coming to an end there would be another obstacle to prevent it. The only reason for this seemed to be to make the movie long enough to be able to play in theatres. We sat through it in the end and were relieved when it finally ended. A trying experience, not recommended at all. Unless you have some desire to see all three movies you can safely skip the second one and save yourself a bit of time and aggravation.
