The Lion’s Roar – First Aid Kit

Listened to this album again during the 2020 XMas holidays. Although from Sweden, these 2 sisters have a very American folk sound. I discovered this album after hearing the hit song Blue on the radio in 2012. I bought the CD and loved it. The other hit on the album is Emmylou which is certainly a good song but if I have to pick my personal favourites on this album then I would probably choose This old routine which is very melancholy and King of the World which is more energetic. There are many more excellent songs on this album but I enjoy them most by listening to the complete album. That way I get immersed in the atmosphere of the music and it becomes more than the sum of the parts. I read that they chose their band name as it reflects what they want their music to be for people. Not sure I would describe it that way personally, more as nourishment for the soul maybe : folk and soul music to paraphrase Country Joe. You have to like the genre of course but I haven’t grown tired of it, this is timeless music.
